Fergal de Clar
What is financial planning?
Financial planning is all about creating a roadmap for your finances and future life goals. It’s a long-term, ongoing plan that covers what’s important to you right now, as well as what you might prioritise in the future.
To build a solid financial plan, you need to look at your current finances and set goals which you can work towards.
This may include:
Everyday budgeting
Understand current spending patterns, and set some broad parameters for future spending. This is the first step to securing your financial future.
Saving for a specific goal
Prioritise debts for repayment and begin to build an emergency savings pot. Then set clear savings goals, with simple strategies, to increase savings success
Investing to grow your wealth
Maximise the investment potential of excess funds through a range of long-term investment options.
Life Insurance
Understand how much life insurance you need to protect your family, both now and into the future.
Retirement planning
Create a retirement plan tailored to your retirement goals and the lifestyle you'll want.
Financial Consultation
Schedule a consultation to discuss your financial goals and concerns. I offer personalised financial advice tailored to your specific needs and circumstances.
Prices
I charge a base fee of €150, followed by an hourly fee of €70 per session. In this way, clients can choose how deeply they want to go in their financial planning.
An initial 15 minute chat is free, to help you decide if the service I offer is for you.
How many sessions are needed ?
This depends on the complexity of your financial planning needs. For some people 2 or 3 sessions are enough but on average I'll normally do 5 or 6 sessions with a client.
About Me
I have worked across multiple sectors of finance over 3 decades.
For the first 10 years of my career, I worked for Barclays Investment Bank advising large corporate clients on how to manage their financial risks and exposures.
For the next decade I was MBA director at the European School of Economics, developing programmes to educate the next generation of business leaders. As part of that role, I also taught courses in Investments and in Financial Planning.
Most recently, I was Head of User Research at a financial technology company called Fabrick. There I worked with our banking clients to help them understand the needs and requirements of their customers, including what functionality to include on their banking apps to help customers to budget more effectively and to save & invest.
I'm now delighted to be working independently, helping people to understand their relationship with money and to take control of their financial future.
My Approach to Financial Planning
For me, it's very important that as well as giving clients useful tips and strategies for setting and reaching their financial goals, that I also help them understand the principles of sound financial planning, so that in future years they are confident in adopting and implementing new goals.
In that sense, my approach is partly solution-based and partly education-based.
